The sweet girls that I get to work with on a daily basis. I cannot thank each of you enough for your love and support.
As my time at Ventura comes to a close and new adventures await, I wanted to take the time to reflect on all that I have learned over the past year. Ventura is truly a one of a kind company and I am so thankful for the many opportunities that I had while working here. This blog in no way sums up everything I have learned but just a quick overview as I cannot put into words how much I have loved working at Ventura.
Christmas photo shoot with the girls…a.k.a. an excuse to wear PJs and eat cookies at work.
What I have learned…
The past year has taught me a lot in both work and personal life. Over the course of my time at Ventura, I have also been completing my graduate course work for which I just received my Master’s Degree in Environmental Design from Texas Tech. I have learned a great deal about time management in order to make sure that I was able to complete my responsibilities at work as well as my course work.
The real life of design versus school are two very different things. Yes, school does apply to what I do now but I have learned so much over the past year. One of the unique aspects of Ventura is that we design in every style. Of course, we learn about the wide range of design styles in school, however, you get to really put it all to practice in real life. I love that Ventura designs in all styles because no two houses will ever be the same and it helps make us grow into well-rounded designers.
Ventura Homes Tailgate! Seriously one of my favorite memories.
Favorite parts about Ventura
The Ventura Team truly makes this job amazing. I love the people that I get to work with on a day to day basis and there is never a dull moment at the office. Mike, the one who always has wise words to say. Jeff, the man in charge who is inspired by the real homes of Instagram and always challenges us to make our designs better. Eric, the work dad to the girls in the office who can fix any CAD problem and can always make you laugh with his “Ericisms”. Jason, the guy always asking if you can go do a photoshoot or to let you know you have a blog post due. Jackson, head of media and the new guy that keeps Jason company with all the girls. Jesus, JD, Cody, and Shannon, the men you call when you need help with just about anything. Paije, my sweet friend from school that I have loved working with and who always has great advice on floorplans. Georgia, the grammatical wizard who you can always count on for a great meme. Finally, Mattie, the head designer who pushes me to be better even after I ask her a hundred questions, she also gives great life advice. I am so thankful that I was able to work with this amazing team. They have truly become my Lubbock family over this past year. Don’t worry – I am not going too far away and definitely want life updates from everyone at the office.
Eric can cook up some amazing fajitas!
So, what is next? I am starting this new chapter of my life by moving to and working in Dallas. I am excited about this opportunity and I am so thankful for all the support that Ventura has given me over this past year. I will definitely miss Lubbock and Texas Tech, but I am sure I will come to my fair share of football and basketball games to cheer on the Red Raiders. I am excited to see the future of Ventura as they continue to grow and become a leader in residential design. It has been such a pleasure getting to work for such a great company. Finally, I would just like to say thank you to the Ventura Team. Thank you for always answering my questions because I know there are a lot and for encouraging me as I finished graduate school. Y’all are seriously amazing and I love each and every one of you.
Don’t worry, we are not serious all the time. There are definitely lots of good laughs at our office.
With love, Taylor
